Privacy Policy
Travel Spanish Buddy is made by Designing Pixels ("we," "us," or "our"). This policy explains what happens to your information when you use the Travel Spanish Buddy app on iPhone and iPad ("the app") and the Travel Spanish Buddy website, including its lessons and Kids' Corner ("the website").
The short version
We do not collect any personal data. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics and no tracking, in the app or on the website. Your progress and everything you create stay on your device.
The website
Information we collect
None. The website has no account or sign-in, no cookies, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking tools. It does not send your progress or anything you type to us.
Data stored in your browser
To remember your progress, the website saves the following in your browser's local storage on your device:
- Learning progress: lessons, XP, pesos, streaks, crowns, quests, review cards, stamps and achievements
- Settings and the trip details you enter, such as your trip date and destination
- Show cards you create, phrases you star, and items you choose in the shop
This data stays in your browser on that device. We cannot see or access it. You can delete it at any time with Settings › Start over, or by clearing this site's data in your browser. If you use Settings › Save progress file, a file is saved to your device; it goes nowhere else unless you send it somewhere.
Spoken Spanish
The website reads Spanish aloud using the voices built into your device and browser. Most voices work on your device. Some browsers offer online voices that send the text being spoken to the browser maker to create the audio; that is handled by your browser under its own privacy policy. We never receive the text or audio.
Fonts, images and sounds
All fonts, images and sounds are served from this website. The website does not load anything from Google Fonts, social networks or advertising services.
Website hosting
Like any website, the server that delivers these pages may keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, the pages requested and the browser type, for security and to keep the site running. We do not use these logs to identify you or combine them with other information.
Links to other sites
Links to the App Store take you to Apple, which has its own privacy policy.
The iPhone and iPad app
Information we collect
None. We do not collect, store, transmit, sell or share personal data.
- No account or sign-in is required
- No analytics, advertising or tracking tools are included in the app
- The app does not send your data to us. We do not run servers for the app
Data stored on your device
The app keeps the following in its private storage on your device:
- Learning progress: lessons, XP, streaks, crowns, quests, stamps and achievements
- Settings and the trip details you enter, such as your trip date and destination
- Show cards you create, starred phrases, and lines you save from Conversation mode or Scan & Translate
We cannot see or access this data. It may be included in your iCloud or computer backups, depending on your device settings; those backups are handled by Apple. Deleting the app deletes this data from your device.
If you used an earlier version (1.x), the app copies your earlier progress into the new version once, on your device. Nothing is sent anywhere. Progress on the website and in the app is kept separately.
Camera, photos, microphone and speech recognition
The app asks for these permissions only when you use a feature that needs them. You can change them at any time in iOS Settings.
- Camera: used only when you choose Scan & Translate to photograph a sign, menu or document. Text is read on your device with Apple's Vision framework. Your images are not uploaded to us or to anyone else.
- Photos: when you choose a photo, Apple's system photo picker gives the app only the photo you select. The app has no access to the rest of your library.
- Microphone and speech recognition: used in Conversation mode to turn speech into text. The app uses Apple's Speech framework and asks for on-device recognition whenever your device supports it for the language. On some devices or languages, Apple may process the audio on its servers to recognize it; that processing is done by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. We never receive your audio or transcripts, and the app does not record or keep audio.
Translation and spoken audio
Translations use Apple's Translation framework on your device. The first time you translate, iOS may download a language pack from Apple. Spoken Spanish uses the voices built into iOS.
Notifications
Daily practice reminders are local notifications scheduled on your device. We do not use a push notification server. You can turn reminders off in the app's Profile tab or in iOS Settings.
Purchases
Buddy Pro subscriptions are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your name, Apple ID or payment details. The app asks Apple's StoreKit whether you have an active subscription. Apple provides us with standard sales reports that do not identify you. The website has no purchases.
Crash reports
If you choose to share analytics with app developers in iOS Settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports and usage statistics. You can turn this off at any time in Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements.
Children's privacy
The app and the website are suitable for general audiences, and the website's Kids' Corner is designed for young learners. Because we do not collect personal information from anyone, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 or any other age. Kids' Corner progress, like all website progress, stays in the browser on the device being used.
Your choices
All of your data is on your device and under your control. Because we hold no personal data, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export or delete on your behalf. On the website, you can save, load or clear your progress in Settings, or clear this site's data in your browser. In the app, you can manage permissions in iOS Settings, cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID settings, and remove all app data by deleting the app.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update it in the app and on this website and change the date above.
